Last October, I wrote about why every traveler should know Taylor Swift’s upcoming concert cities and dates. In short, it was because Taylor Swift is a force and has one of, if not the, most loyal fan bases the world has ever seen. Wherever she performs, she sells out, not only the stadium but the city. Hotels and rentals charge a premium.
According to the U.S. Travel Association, Taylor Swift has had an unprecedented impact: “Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour went to 20 U.S. cities, and the concertgoers far outpaced typical spending patterns. Swift fans––“Swifties”––averaged $1,300 of spending in local economies on travel, hotel stays, food, as well as merchandise and costumes. That amount of spending is on par with the Super Bowl, but this time it happened on 53 different nights in 20 different locations over the course of five months. Downtowns across the country have enjoyed an influx of visitors—and a spending boost thanks to Taylor Swift.”
And that’s just in the United States. Per the Associate Press, Taylor Swift makes such an economic difference that Singapore struck a “lucrative and exclusive deal” with her to perform in the city-state for six nights so she didn’t take her Eras Tour to any other stop in Southeast Asia.
I have friends who have gone all over the world to see Taylor perform, mainly because her concert tickets are much cheaper abroad than they are in the U.S. thanks to Ticketmaster’s monopoly. Even with the host city’s high lodging rates, it’s still cheaper than going to a concert in the U.S.
Unfortunately, one of Taylor’s three-night stops had to be cancelled at the last minute because of a threat of terror. According to CNN, “Organizers have canceled three Taylor Swift concerts in Austria after authorities said they foiled a terror attack planned for the Vienna leg of her blockbuster Eras tour. The extraordinary decision – which could come at significant cost to Vienna’s businesses – has devastated fans and renewed focus on the vulnerability of huge concerts as soft targets for terror networks and spree killers.”
Taylor was scheduled to play three nights in Vienna starting tonight but that didn’t stop her fans from getting together and doing what they do best – spreading love by singing and trading the signature friendship bracelets Taylor has made so popular. If you’re a Taylor Swift fan (and even if you’re not), try to watch this 45-second video below without shedding a tear.

As one user commented: “I’m sure Taylor is crying her eyes out just like I am. So much love for Taylor.”
