Even if you’re not a Taylor Swift fan, or a Swiftie, as I understand they’re called, you have to at least respect what this talented musician and businesswoman has done to the entertainment industry … and the economy, for that matter. Wherever she goes, her fans follow and prices go up considerably for everything but especially lodging. RELATED: Taylor Swift’s Clever Southwest Airlines Tip For Keeping the Seat Next to You Empty
According to the U.S. Travel Association, Taylor Swift has had an unprecedented impact: “Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour went to 20 U.S. cities, and the concertgoers far outpaced typical spending patterns. Swift fans––“Swifties”––averaged $1,300 of spending in local economies on travel, hotel stays, food, as well as merchandise and costumes. That amount of spending is on par with the Super Bowl, but this time it happened on 53 different nights in 20 different locations over the course of five months. Downtowns across the country have enjoyed an influx of visitors—and a spending boost thanks to Taylor Swift.”
Keep in mind this is just her U.S. tour. Her worldwide tour is set to kick-off next month in Argentina and then Brazil before taking a break for Christmas, then continuing to the world by storm in 2024. She has 90 concerts planned spanning from Australia to Zurich in 19 countries. Her full schedule can be found below.
My wife was disappointed when she missed her L.A. concert since it took place just four miles from where we live. So I suggested we go to one of her international stops. However, we would need someplace we could leave our kids with good friends or family members for the five hours we would be away. We settled on the closest and what made most sense, Natalie’s native Toronto, which is where Taylor is ending her Eras Tour, a week before Thanksgiving 2024.
When I spoke to my brother yesterday, he said he wanted to join us and take his daughter. I was shocked he’s even a fan but he said he just saw her movie and it was so inspiring. We both quipped how crazy it that she’s everywhere. You turn on a football game, there she is. Turn on SNL or late night TV or the radio and there she is. I happened to have the local news on when my brother called and I said the anchors are literally taking about her right now. (There’s a Taylor Swift academic conference to be held by Indiana University.)
While researching stories for today’s travel news round-up, I came across a piece in the New York Times titled: “Want to See Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour? Fans Say ‘Grab Your Passport and My Hand.’”
The NY Times wrote what I was thinking: International concert tickets are usually cheaper than in the U.S. and it’s common for fans to travel to see their favorite bands. According to the New York Times, “Traveling to see a beloved performer is nothing new. Fans have flown to see U2, parked R.V.s outside Phish and Grateful Dead shows, and spent top dollar to see Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour. Now for Ms. Swift’s Eras Tour, there is no incentive needed for many fans other than being able to score a more affordable ticket in a vacation-worthy destination.”
All of this brings me to one of one of my standard travel tips. Find out if there are any big conferences, holidays or events taking place at your destination before buying your plane tickets. Otherwise, you could be priced out or worse, locked out of accommodations. “Hotel prices across Europe are surging on the nights Ms. Swift comes to town.”
But if you are a fan, then you’ll get excited over some of the promotions they highlighted. “Contiki, a youth-focused travel agency, is offering five different trips that nod to the singer, including a tour of Paris “for your European love story.” The agency also offers a discount of 13 percent — a reference to Ms. Swift’s self-proclaimed lucky number — on any European trip longer than 14 days. Air New Zealand has already added 2,000 seats to accommodate what it calls the Swift Surge, fans flying to Australia for February dates. (A tip of the hat to whichever executive thought of the flight code NZ1989.)”
So, no matter if you’re a fan of Taylor Swift or not, you better find out where she’s playing before you book your 2024 travels because if you happen to be in the same city, good luck finding a cheap place to sleep.

I was lucky enough to see her 2x locally in Los Angeles, and last week I bought tickets to see her in Amsterdam!!! Will be my first time to Europe, so exciting! Plus it was way cheaper for the entire trip than trying to see her again in the US in October.
