JetBlue is one the best and most popular airlines flying today and if you hold a JetBlue credit card the experience can be even better.

The information for the JetBlue Plus Card has been collected independently by Johnny Jet. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

The JetBlue in-flight experience still includes snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, the entertainment is free and good (DirecTV and SiriusXM), there’s free and pretty reliable Wi-Fi on most flights—and with the expansion of its premium Mint service, the overall JetBlue product seems to be getting even better as others seem to be getting worse. They already fly to 80+ destinations in the US, Caribbean, and South America, and they’re adding more all the time.

Especially if you’re a casual flyer, there are plenty of reasons to like JetBlue. And if you like JetBlue, JetBlue Plus Card — one of three new JetBlue Mastercards launched by Barclays last year—is a great, great card. Here’s why:

JetBlue Plus Card Perks

40,000-point sign-up bonus
Of course, the best travel credit card deals come with sign-up bonuses. The JetBlue Plus Card is no exception. Right now, as a cardholder, you can earn 40,000 bonus TrueBlue points after you spend $1,000 in purchases in the first 90 days and pay the $99 annual fee. By my calculation, that’s enough at least one flight.

Better yet, there are no blackout dates, and these TrueBlue points never expire. You can even pool them with your family, as per the usual TrueBlue program rules.

Free checked bag
As a cardholder, you’ll get one free bag every time you fly JetBlue. When you fly JetBlue with others, up to three companions will also get one free bag, as well. For comparison: With a standard “Blue” JetBlue fare (here’s their new baggage price structure), the first bag for non-cardholders is $20 in advance or $25 at check-in, so $40 or $50 per roundtrip.

6x points per $1 spent on JetBlue purchases (6x, 2x, 1x)
For every $1 spent on JetBlue flights and products/services booked through JetBlue channels (JetBlue.com, JetBlue reservations, JetBlue Getaways and JetBlue airport ticket counters), you’ll earn an amazing six (6) TrueBlue points. That’s as good or better than what comparable airline cards offer on purchases made on flights with the partner airlines. In addition, you get two (2) points per $1 spent at restaurants and grocery stores and one (1) point per $1 spent on all other purchases.

Get 10% of your redeemed points back, right away
Every time you redeem your TrueBlue points as a cardholder, you’ll get 10% of them directly back in your account.

50% off in-flight JetBlue purchases
Snacks are free, but as with most US airline these days you can pay for alcoholic drinks and better food (see options here), movies ($5 each inside the US on flights of 2+ hours and free on international flights), and more. With the JetBlue Plus Card, everything you pay for onboard a JetBlue flight (with your card) is half-off.

A Couple JetBlue TrueBlue Tidbits:

  • You can enroll in the JetBlue TrueBlue program for free here.
  • You can share your points with household family members through Family Pooling.
  • JetBlue has a killer premium cabin called “Mint Class.”
  • The JetBlue TrueBlue award program is revenue based (think Southwest Rapid Rewards), and flights start at just 3,500 points one way. You can find some gems from the East Coast to the Caribbean. JetBlue flies direct to Boston from Austin, and I was able to find flights as low as 7,700 points and $5.60 one-way.
  • See this page to look at all the JetBlue routes. They’re expanding more and more.
  • The JetBlue credit cards are MasterCards issued by Barclays
  • The JetBlue TrueBlue program is also a transfer partner of the American Express Membership Rewards program, so you can transfer Membership Rewards points to top off your account. Nifty.

Wrap Up on the JetBlue Plus MasterCard

It’s great to have travel rewards cards to apply for from a different bank beside the main American Express, Citibank, and Chase.

If you regularly fly JetBlue then holding a JetBlue credit card is a no-brainer. Especially the JetBlue Plus with its 40k bonus and 10% rebate on award redemptions perks. I like that you can combine our TrueBlue points through family pooling, and sign-up bonuses would cover two round-trip tickets for two to Boston. And the Mint Class is a superior premium cabin for domestic flying.
