SO APPRECIATE YOU AND YOUR WIFE AND TIPS IN TIMES LIKE THESE! I’M LEARING THAT AA HAS NOW CHANGED THEIR CHECKED BAGGED POLICY ON INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS. PREVIOUSLY, I’VE NEVER BEEN CHARGED FOR A CHECKED BAG….NOR DO I GET THE MORE EXPENSIVE PLANE TICKET THAT “INCLUDES” ON CHECKED BAG. I WOULD JUST USE MY AA CREDIT CARD TO PURCHASE MY TICKET AND THEN SHOW THAT CARD AT THE GATE. HOWEVER, I’VE JUST LEARNED THEY HAVE a DISCONTINUED THAT “PERK”. APPLYING FOR THE CARD YOU RECOMMENDED TODAY..

as far as I know, you need to book on the United website and pay your United MileagePlus card to get the free luggage and double point benefits.

I believe as long as you pay with your United credit card and put in your MileagePlus # you will earn the free bag benefit as long as it’s a qualified purchase.

I still get the free checked bag benefit? FYI I am flying United for this trip. I’m confused, I heard it has to be from United site?

It does need to be open since you pay with the card and they credit you back.

After redeeming AAdvantage reward miles, is it possible to still receive free checked bags if I have cancelled my co-branded Citi card? Does the credit card account need to remain active to take advantage of this perk?
Thank you!

Hi, I also have the Citi Prestige card so I called customer service to confirm the benefits. They told me that the $250 travel credit would cover these types of travel-related costs as long there is still credit remaining. I specifically asked about baggage fees and she replied that those were covered for personal travel. You can view more details at the Citi Prestige additional information page.

Can you please confirm whether or not this is true. Referring to your statement and I quote, “While the Citi Prestige card offers $250 annually. The difference with the Citi Prestige card is that this annual travel credit can also be used towards the cost of purchasing a ticket.”
