I woke up this morning and turned on the local news here in Los Angeles, as I always do. The top story is that the 405 northbound freeway at Wilshire Blvd is closed for an investigation into what was possibly the most bizarre police chase of all time … and that’s saying something because we’ve seen our fair share of crazy chases. FYI: For those of you who are trying to get to LAX, be prepared to leave extra early; according to the local news traffic reporter, the best alternate route right now is Sepulveda or La Cienega. At multiple points in the chase, the woman driving a white utility van with what looked like with Georgia, plates was, if you can believe it, chasing the police. Yes, that’s right. She reversed her vehicle and tried to ram them. Then the police reversed as well. I had to rub my eyes to make sure I was seeing the scene unfold correctly because she then started pursuing the police with her van in ‘drive’. It looked like she had stolen the police car and the police were in her van but of course, that wasn’t the case.

See the unbelievable video below, which the reporter calls “one of the most dramatic police pursuits we’ve seen in a long, long time.”

YouTube user @Andrey_Khaustov1480 commented: “0:46 The police are running away from one criminal. . ??? It’s like this . . ??? Children work for the Los Angeles Police Department . . ???”

It’s absolutely ridiculous that the LAPD didn’t end this chase earlier. I assume there were legal reasons for that. According to the reporter covering this in the KTLA video above, the police officers “showed incredible restraint. By law, they probably could have used lethal force but they showed incredible restraint.”

Of course, I’m not law enforcement but there’s no way a perpetrator like this should be given such a long leash.

According to KTLA, “The events began around 4:30 a.m. when a patrol vehicle responding to a disturbance call was rammed by a woman driving a van, the Los Angeles Police Department posted on X, formerly Twitter. The driver fled the scene prompting police to initiate an assault with a deadly weapon suspect pursuit at 4:49 a.m.”

Here is more footage of how the chase unfolded and the moment the woman crashes head-on into cars on the 405 Northbound at Wilshire:

The pursuit ended following this crash and the woman has been taken into police custody. The investigation is ongoing.
