This story has been created in partnership with Allianz Travel Insurance.

If you’ve ever heard me in an interview on the radio or on TV, then you know how I feel about travel insurance … and this was long before I started working as a brand ambassador for Allianz Partners. Travel insurance gives you a peace of mind when you travel that can’t be replaced. Even if you never use it, it’s comforting to know that you’ve got it, should things go sideways.

Allyz is the newly launched app from Allianz Global Assistance.

I’ve heard horror stories from friends who got injured abroad and doctors wouldn’t perform a life-saving operation until they had paid a hefty fee. In fact, you may remember this recent and disturbing news story.

According to NewsNation: “Jared Hill and Justin Raiford’s weekend vacation in eastern Mexico turned tragic when Hill was hit by a rogue wave and immediately paralyzed. Raiford says the crisis turned into a nightmare when officials at the nearest hospital demanded thousands of dollars before admitting Hill, and even more before performing surgery.” NewsNation interview embedded below:

This is a nightmare scenario for any traveler and an example of how quickly things can go wrong. A travel insurance policy can help. Even better, a travel insurance policy you can access at your fingertips.

Allianz Partners has just launched a mobile app called Allyz TravelSmart, a new digital platform providing travelers with travel advice and expertise as well as access to a range of insurance benefits for Allianz Global Assistance customers. This new and innovative mobile application replaces their old, award-winning Allianz TravelSmart app. The upgraded app promises users new and improved features.

Allyz (pronounced “ah-leeze“) is free to download and use and currently offers a number of travel-enhancing services with more capabilities coming later this year. According to Allianz Partners, the app currently provides a robust list of services for any traveler with additional functions available to Allianz Global Assistance customers. “All travelers can take advantage of functions such as a geolocation-based hospital finder to locate the closest appropriate medical facility, a medical term translator, a medication dictionary, local emergency phone numbers, safety and security alerts to stay up to date on events that may impact a trip, and a trip organizer that provides simplified views of travel itineraries including airline flight tracking capabilities. Allianz Global Assistance policyholders also can use the app to manage their insurance plan and file a claim, access insurance and assistance FAQs as well as contact both Allianz Global Assistance 24/7 customer service and travel assistance with a single touch.”

Allianz launches new travel app, Allyz.
At a glance, here’s what users can expect to be able to do within the handy, all-in-one app:

Get more out of your travel insurance policy:

– File a claim right from your phone

– Manage your travel insurance plans

– View coverage details

– Contact customer care in just a couple taps

Get help with your travel plans:

– Organize itineraries in one spot

– Locate a quality hospital when you need one

– Translate common medical terms

– Get destination-specific safety and security alerts

Current users of the original Allianz TravelSmart mobile app don’t need to download a new app as the current version has been automatically updated to the new Allyz app. If you’re a new user, you can download the app from the Apple App Store or from Google Play. There’s also more information about the app on the Allianz Travel Insurance website.

Of course, no matter which travel insurance policy you choose, you should always read the fine print to make sure you know what’s covered and what isn’t. For example, a lot of insurance companies don’t cover skydiving or scuba diving. Just make sure you know the details of your policy and buy the one that’s best for you.
